Cleaning LCD : Computer Cleaing tips

Unlike a computer monitor, the LCD / flat-panel display is not made of glass, therefore requires special cleaning procedures.

When cleaning the LCD screen it is important to remember to not spray any liquids onto the LCD directly; do not use a paper towel as it may cause the LCD to become scratched.

To clean the LCD screen we recommend that you use a soft cotton cloth; if a dry cloth does not completely clean the screen, you can apply rubbing alcohol to the cloth and wipe the screen with the damp cloth. Rubbing alcohol is actually used to clean the LCD before it leaves the factory.

Clean CD ROM : Computer Cleaning basics : Another Part

Cleaning CDs and DVDs should be done with a cleaning kit but can also be done with a normal clean cotton cloth or shirt. When doing this with a clean cotton cloth or shirt, wipe against the tracks, starting from the middle of the CD or DVD and wiping towards the outer side as shown in the below picture. Never wipe with the tracks; doing so may put more scratches on the disc.

Cleaning a CD and DVD disc

It is recommended when cleaning a CD that water is used. However, if the substance on a CD cannot be removed using water, pure alcohol can also be used.

Clean CD ROM : Computer Cleaning basics

To clean the CD-ROM drive we recommend purchasing a CD-ROM cleaner from your local retailer such as a local Radio Shack. Using a CD-ROM cleaner should sufficiently clean the CD-ROM laser from dust, dirt, and hair.

In addition to cleaning the drive with a special disc designed to clean drives users can also use a cloth dampened with water to clean the tray that ejects from the drive. Make sure however that after the tray has been cleaned that it completely dry before putting the tray back into the drive.

Computer Cleaning Tips : Use Clean Cloth

Cloth - A cloth is the best tool used when rubbing down a component; although paper towels can be used with most hardware, we recommend using a cloth when ever possible.

Caution:
We only suggest you use a cloth when cleaning components such as the outside of the case, a drive, mouse, etc. You should not use a cloth to clean any circuitry such as the RAM or motherboard.

Computer Cleaning Tips : 2

When cleaning a component and/or the computer, turn it off before cleaning.

Computer Cleaning Tips : 1

Never spray or squirt any type of liquid onto any computer component.

If a spray is needed, spray the liquid onto a cloth and then use that cloth to rub down the component.

What is ADSL broadband?

ADSL BROADBAND stands for

Asymmetric
Digital
Subscriber
Line

  • ADSL is the name given to a broadband connection which works through the copper wires of your existing phone line.
  • When ADSL broadband is installed a microfilter is plugged into your phone connection which separates the frequency of your phone line from that of your broadband connection and it is this that allows you to surf the web whilst chatting on the phone.
  • ADSL broadband connection comes through the phone line network, direct to your house, so it is the most popular type of broadband available.
  • All the technology is already put in place so connecting up is really simple and the service is available right across the country.
  • ADSL broadband has the benefit of allowing users to have one person using broadband on the telephone line while the other person is on the phone.

Not interested in having a home telephone line at home? Don't want to pay line rental once a month? The following options may be better alternatives for you to consider:

What is Wireless Broadband Router ?

  • Broadband routers

Routers can be wired or wireless, wired routers are often just called broadband routers. Broadband routers that are not wireless are often used in households where the primary means of connecting to the internet is a fixed PC.

Wireless routers are the most common types of broadband routers and they convert and broadcast the signals coming across your telephone wire around a fixed area, working on the on same principle as a cordless home telephone. This broadcasted signal is then picked up by wireless-enabled devices like laptops and gaming consoles, giving them wireless broadband connectivity throughout the house.

Wireless broadband routers are commonly included in wireless broadband packages and are popular in homes where multiple devices connect to the internet at the same time.

    What wireless routers do:

Provide wireless internet to wireless-enabled devices such as computers, laptops and gaming consoles
  • Can be used to make VoIP calls
  • Facilitate digital TV

Top wireless routers:

There are a number of broadband routers on the market, some enable wireless broadband others are used to facilitate broadband use for fixed PCs. Below are some of the bestselling broadband routers on the market and the broadband providers they are available through. A Computer Like Your Brain

Top: The Three-Dimensional Artificial Neural Network processor is capable of recognizing objects in real time and in highly cluttered background scenes. Photo provided by Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

A new NASA-developed computing device allows machines to work much like the brain. This technology may allow fast-thinking machines to make decisions based on what they see. A planetary rover might use this technology to avoid obstacles, select scientifically interesting spots to explore just by what it sees and navigate through terrain on its own without review from ground controllers. A spacecraft might use the technology to avoid hazards and identify a pre-selected landing site with very high precision.

This may well be recognized as a quantum leap in the pursuit of intelligent vision, allowing machines to be significantly more autonomous, said Dr. Anil Thakoor, supervisor of the Bio-Inspired Technology and Systems Group at NASAs Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California.

The device works much like the brain, whose power comes from the complex networks of interconnections called synapses between brain cells. Networks of these brain cells, called neurons, allow humans to make instant decisions based on an observed image or scene. The new processor captures the same capability to process images in real time as a scene unfolds.

The Three-Dimensional Artificial Neural Network processor is capable of recognizing objects in real time and in highly cluttered background scenes. It can process an image and is capable of a certain degree of judgment about the objects, much the same way a person looks at a variety of objects and makes judgments about the nature of those objects.

Two technologies give the compact processor an unprecedented ability to process a stream of images in a way similar to that used by the human eye-brain combination. One is the JPL-pioneered, highly interconnected networks of ultra-low-power electronic synapses on very large-scale-integrated (VLSI) chips that mimic the core of a brain. The other is the three-dimensional stacking of those chips in a sugar cube-sized package developed by Irvine Sensors Corporation of Costa Mesa, California. Irvine Sensors is a successful NASA SBIR firm that has commercialized the stacked chip technology.

The device achieves a computing speed of more than a trillion operations per second, using only eight watts of power. That is more than a thousand times faster than a typical commercially available desktop computer that consumes more than 100 watts of power. Engineers believe potential commercial benefits for the new technology may be found in public safety and in creating a personal computer that can respond to users emotional states by simply recognizing the users facial expressions. The development may also be useful to the video game industry in improving interactive technologies.

Computers of Tomorrow

Today's computers operate using transistors, wires and electricity. Future computers might use atoms, fibers and light. Personally, I don't give a byte what makes it tick, as long as it does the job. If I could accidentally spill my coffee and not have it cost $848, that would be a cool feature.

But let us assume that you are not still bitter from a recent laptop replacement. You might stop to consider what the world might be like, if computers the size of molecules become a reality. These are the types of computers that could be everywhere, but never seen. Nano sized bio-computers that could target specific areas inside your body. Giant networks of computers, in your clothing, your house, your car. Entrenched in almost every aspect of our lives and yet you may never give them a single thought.

Complete understanding of the theories behind these future computer technologies is not for the meek. For example, my research into quantum computers was made all the more difficult, after I learned that in light of her constant interference, it is theoretically possible my mother-in-law could be in two places at once.

If you have the heart, take a gander at this collection of articles and links on the most promising new computer technologies. If not, dare to imagine the ways that billions of tiny, powerful computers will change our society.

Network Printer

Network Printer

Add Network Printer Applies to Windows Vista. Even though adding a network printer in Windows Vista is much the same as Windows XP, there are a few tiny differences. If you are already sharing an internet connection and have a network, it is unbelievably easy to add a network printer.

Add Network Printer Applies to Windows XP. This is a handy way to get away with having only one printer per household. You only need a printer attached to one computer on the home network and all the others can access it to use it.

Enable Printer and File sharing How to enable in Windows XP And Vista. Before sharing anything on a network, you must change settings that allow files, folders, and printers to be shared. There is just a few simple steps.

Path to your network printer How to find the path \\server\printer Sometimes the add printer wizard cannot find your network printer and this is when you will have to know the path to your printer. My network printer is installed on a computer in my house named Frank and the printer is called Hpprinter. Therefore my path is \\frank\hpprinter.

Set Network printer permissions Set who can change printer settings in Windows XP and Vista. You may want other users on the network to simply view a folder, but not allow them to alter or change it in any way. Setting permissions with a network printer can stop people from changing printing options.

Guard your computer from viruses

Guard your computer from viruses

If you are not sure what a virus is please visit What is a virus and how do I know if I have one?

* Anti virus software: Always have a good antivirus software installed. The free ones do work occasionally, however you are better off paying for an antivirus that has backup support and regular updates. Here are some choices for Virus Removal Software.

* Limit Downloading: Downloading from unknown sources is dangerous because it is highly likely that you will end up with a virus. If you are downloading a program it is best to make sure it comes from a reputable software manufacturer. Do your research and you will save your computer some stress.

* Bad websites: Websites that offer things that are too good to be true or have XXXX content usually can give you a virus or a tracking cookie the instant you visit this site. the best way is to stay away from these sites.

* Suspicious emails: If you are not sure who has sent an email and it has an attachment, do not open it, delete it. If it really is important the person will resend it to you. I received one to my personal email saying 'here are your credit card records you requested...etc etc' I was really temped to open it but I knew it wasn't from my bank. I just wanted to see if they really had my credit card number, but I deleted it.. They wanted me to open it.

*Illegal software: If you don't have the real deal software you are putting your computer at risk. People have tampered and altered this software to make it work illegally and who knows what they have added to it. This software can also very easily do weird things to your computer.

Remove unwanted and junk files

Remove unwanted and junk files

Windows helps you get through your maintenance checklist by providing system tools that help you clean your computer and keep it running smoothly. There are two main ways to delete files safely with the help of Windows XP.

* Disk Cleanup: This will remove such files as temporary files, the recycle bin, compressed old files, offline WebPages, and downloaded program files.
To get there you can go to my computer>right click on the drive you want to clean>choose properties>then choose disk cleanup. For a more detailed explanation see more about disk cleanup.

* Delete browsing history: You will be amazing at how many files you collect when you browse the internet. Temporary internet files, cookies, history, form data, and passwords. Am I joking? No this is serious. To keep your computer running smoothly you must regularly delete all of this junk. If you are a person that likes the computer filling in your passwords you should probably leave the cookies and the passwords.
To get there open Internet Explorer>Go to the tools menu at the top>choose Internet Options>On the General tab>next to the heading browsing history>click on the delete button. You can choose to delete all at the bottom or you can delete them individually. If you need more information see how to Delete your visited website history.
